How much does a house rewire cost in Oxford?
What drives the price of a rewire in Oxfordshire, how to compare quotes fairly, and the certificate you should get at the end.
Why prices vary so much
The size of the house, how many sockets and lights you want, whether floors and walls need lifting, and whether the consumer unit (fuse box) is being replaced all change the price. Older Oxford terraces with solid walls usually take longer than newer homes.
Plastering and redecorating afterwards are often not included — ask whether the quote covers making good.
How to compare quotes
Get two or three written quotes for the same list of work. Check each one says how many points, which consumer unit, how long it will take and what's excluded.
Rewiring is notifiable work under Building Regulations (Part P). A registered electrician (for example NICEIC or NAPIT) can self-certify it, so you don't need to apply to the council separately.
What you should get at the end
An Electrical Installation Certificate and a Building Regulations compliance certificate. Keep both — you'll need them when you sell the house.
