EICR in Oxford: cost, how often and what it covers

What an Electrical Installation Condition Report is, how often homeowners and landlords need one, and what affects the price in Oxfordshire.

What is an EICR?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is an inspection of your home's wiring, sockets, consumer unit and earthing. Faults are coded C1 (danger present), C2 (potentially dangerous) and C3 (improvement recommended).

How often?

Private landlords in England must have the electrics inspected at least every five years and give tenants a copy of the report. For owner-occupied homes, Electrical Safety First recommends a check at least every 10 years and when you buy a property.

What affects the price

The number of circuits and rooms, access to the consumer unit, and whether remedial work is needed. Ask whether the quote includes any fixes or just the report, and ask for remedial costs in writing before agreeing to them.
